چکیده

Recent analyses of ion measurements band electrostatic noise observed in the frequency obtained from the Differential Ion Flux Probe range of 30 Hz to 178 kHz [Shawhan et al., 1984]. (DIFP) on the deployed Plasma Diagnostics Package The Differential Ion Flux Probe (DIFP), used (PDP) during the OSS-1/STS-3 mission have provided for the ion measurements, has been described in an additional insight into the plasma-electrodyStone [1977] and Stone et al. [1985]. Briefly, namics of the Space Shuttle Orbiter: (1) Measured this instrument has the capability to deconvolve ion flow directions and energies suggest that the disturbance created in the ionospheric plasma by the Shuttle Orbiter may be confined to an interaction region that extends on the order of 10 m in the forward direction and has a boundary thickness of about 2 m. (2) A correlation between the DIFP and pressure gauge measurements indicates a direct, local proportionality between the neutral gas and ion densities. (3) Preliminary results from a theoretical model of the possible interaction between measured secondary, high inclination ion streams and the ambient plasma indicate the generation of broad-band electrostatic noise such as that observed by wave instruments on the PDP.

TriDAR Test Results Onboard Final Shuttle Mission, Applications for Future of Non-Cooperative Autonomous Rendezvous & Docking

This paper presents results from the final Space Shuttle test flight of the TriDAR vision system onboard Shuttle Atlantis on STS-135. The TriDAR (Triangulation + LIDAR) is a proximity operations 3D vision system for Autonomous Rendezvous and Docking (AR&D) missions to non-cooperative targets in space. The TriDAR has previously flown on STS-128 and STS-131 onboard Shuttle Discovery. The objectiv...

New Observations of Transient Luminous Events from the Space Shuttle during the Meidex

In this work we report the results of observations of Transient Luminous Events above thundersorms, conducted during the STS-107 space shuttle mission, as part of the Mediterranean Israeli Dust Experiment (MEIDEX). We show the high detection rate of various events and describe some significant results that may enhance our understanding of the global occurrence of these transient events.

NASDA's activities in space robotics

Space robots are indispensable tools the reaction wheels were run-downed and for future space missions such a s building1 switched off. This mission gave us a lot of insight operation of the international space station, about the rendezvous docking and space robot realization of on-orbit satellite servicing operations. (inspection, logistic support, repair, rescue from stranded orbit etc.), and...

Intelligent Instruments for the Space Plasma Environment

The work of the Space Science Centre at the University of Sussex in the development of intelligent space plasma instruments is presented here. Previously the Centre has included various intelligent techniques within space instruments flown on a number of space missions. A neural network was included in the SPREE instruments flown on Shuttle flights STS-46 (1992), and STS-75 (1996). Fuzzy Logic ...

Experimental Studies of Wave-particle Interactions in Space Using Particle Correlators: Results and Future Developments

The technique of particle correlation measures directly electron modulations that result from naturally occurring and actively stimulated wave-particle interactions in space plasmas. In the past this technique has been used for studies of beam-plasma interactions, caused by both natural auroral electron beams via sounding rockets and by artificially generated electron beams on Space Shuttle mis...
